The 2006 race WAS in HONOR of S. STURGIS CROCKER

(1916-2005)

In 2006, the 40th Anniversary Crocker Race Committee established a permanent trophy in memory of Sturg Crocker. To be eligible for this award, your boat must be at least 25' in length, have a valid PHRF Certificate, and you must compete in this race under your Racing Rating. A copy of your PHRF Certificate must be submitted with the Entry Form.

Boat builder, author, founder of Crocker's Boat Yard, and inveterate PHRF sailor, S. Sturgis Crocker ("Sturg") passed away in June 2005. However, his legacy - a passion for boats and sailing - lives on in the boats he built, the yard he loved, and the race founded in memory of his father, the S. S. Crocker Memorial Race.

S. Sturgis Crocker was Sam Crocker's Son. He was a life-long New Englander with an illustrious boatbuilding career. He began building boats while still a teenager with Britt Brothers' yard at West Lynn, Massachusetts. He worked with Bud McIntosh in Dover Point, New Hampshire, and at the Portsmouth and Boston Navy Yards. He was the owner of Crocker's Boat Yard in Manchester, Massachusetts from 1946 until his death in 2005. "Sturg" built many of his fathers famous designs at his yard in Manchester. The boat yard is still building, restoring and repairing boats and is now operated by Sturgis' son, Sam, daughter, Kitty and grandson, Skip.
